Mudvayne with 10 Years and Snot @ The Fillmore Nov. 21, 2008

The long awaited night was finally at hand and my gut felt like a flock of butterflies. The air was bristly cold as i walked up to The Fillmore with my friends closely following. After the normal pat down and scan, we were all finally inside and starting to feel our toes. The Best Band in Denver had already played and Uncle Nasty's band, A Band Called Horse was taking the stage as i checked my coat. it was still fairly empty so i was easy to get up front to be ready for the long awaited return of SNOT!

If you're not familiar with Snot, its a sad story of fame in the 90's only to be snatched away by the death of the lead singer due to a car crash. But now with a new singer and what looked like lots of promotion money and probably a new record label, Snot has broken back into the scene and people are taking notice once again. The reason I am guessing there is a lot money behind this reunion is the price of the T-shirts and the fact that if you bought a Snot shirt, you received a free hat. On top of that, there were mouse pads and other crap with the Snot logo on it. When was the last time you saw a mouse pad for sale at a concert? It makes one wonder.

A Band Called Horse played a rather short set and did a lighting fast set change to open the stage up for Snot. From the second the three members of Snot Hit the stage till the moment they walked off the crowd was fuming with adrenalin. Most of the Album 'Get Some" was played and they didn't miss a beat. Even though the new singer didn't write the material he was singing, you could still feel the emotion and aggression in his voice as it rattled your ear drums. Snot is scheduled to record new material this December. During their set, they did perform two new songs, so hopefully they make it the album.

The pit was full of respect just like the old days of metal as I call it. Someone falls down, you pick them up! From the moment you walk into the pit till the time you leave for the night the people in the pit are your brothers and sisters and you treat them as your own. That is what I was taught over ten years ago when there was ALWAYS respect in the pit in some form or another. It was hard to stand still during their set. The 'Wall of Death' they did went smoothly and almost everyone in the front participated. it had been a long time since I had been in a good pit and wall of death without fearing of getting punched by some kid that is kicking and punching and completely ruining the idea of a mosh pit. it is expected to get fucked up in the pit, but the people that do it on purpose, like don't do it to get their aggression out are fucked up and lack respect.
By the time they were over I was already covered in the hot sticky sweat of everyone that i came in contact with and my breath was short. I was sad to see Snot go but I was happy for the break. You can see the pictures I took of Snot Below.

10 Years Took the stage after a brief set changed and welcome break. I was stunned to see the Lead singer had cut off his long dread locks for a short due. He still looks great, but he had beautiful dreads. 10 Years played several songs off the latest release 'Division' and then played several favorites off their first album 'The Autumn Effect'. The crowd moshed heavily to several of the songs while others they stood and gently bounced. You can see Pictures of 10 years below As well as the Video ' Beautiful' by 10 Years that I shot that night.

Now many have asked me why didn't I record more of 10 Years or anything of Snot or anything of Mudvayne. The answer is simple. I wanted to mosh and get the aggression out as much as anyone else there. When you record as much as I do, it becomes almost like work. When you are recording you have to worry about where the best place for sound is, getting away from the load drunk people, getting a good angle, worrying about staying still, Keeping the arms up as much as I can, remembering all the equipment, getting it into the show, remembering batteries and charging the batteries, remembering my spare memory cards, and the list of worries and things to remember just goes on and on and when you do it several times a month, the fun starts to get sucked out of a good show. On top of that most of the shows I go to, I go alone so it isn't the same as when you go with a large group. So when Mudvayne came to town, it was balls to wall moshing get your anger out. it would have been great to get footage of Mudvayne but I needed to mosh. I still have bruises all over from Mudvayne and my friend broke his nose and bruised his ribs and we can't wait for more.

Finally Mudvayne embraced the stage and the wave of the crowd flowed into a mash of circling and jumping all caught up in the music before them. Only one new song was played during their set, 'Do What You Do'. The rest of the fast paced evening was filled with Mudvayne favorites like 'Death Blooms' and '-1'. At one point The lead singer of Mudvayne even Puked on stage as part of the act. The puke was real unlike puke at a GWAR show. When I saw this I worried the show would be cut short but then a women screamed, "He did that in Seattle!". The costumes were unlike I had ever seen Mudvayne wear live and if I think about it, I think Mudvayne didn't wear costumes last time they were in Denver and also had ditched the make-up. Now three years later, Mudvayne is back in costume and have the Make-up back on.

It felt like the old days as I call them, people we smiling as they tore through the pit to Mudvayne, I wasn't the only girl in the pit, there were several circling right with me, and when someone fell, everyone stopped to pull them up. The energy was good and thick through the whole crowd. Mudvayne finished earlier than the Fillmore staff informed me of when I asked, but it was alright.

Overall the Pit was great, the bands played intense performances and it will not be forgotten. It was one of the best shows I have been to in a very long time and it really made shows fun for me again. We all need to hop into the Pit everyonce in a while. Look for me at Five Finger Death Punch Tomorrow night at the Fillmore and then Tuesday night I'll be at Staind with Seether. So say Hi if you see me. :)
